A Package of insurance policies from Union Syndicale Brussels Many of you have been asking Union Syndicale Brussels (USB) to improve and extend the range of services it offers both to the staff as a whole and to its members in particular, especially in connection with insurance. That is why the Executive Committee decided to appoint the insurance broker Concordia to investigate the insurance market and put together an attractive package of insurance policies to cover the most frequent types of insurance. We are pleased now to be able to present to you on this page of our website the results of these efforts : a package of insurance policies that really do offer ‘more for less’, that is to say very extensive insurance coverage at very competitive rates. By clicking on the hyperlinks you will access an information leaflet that sets out the range of insurance policies offered together with the possibility of combining them in order to take advantage of additional benefits.
Beneficiaries of the package
The insurance policies are open to all officials and other agents of the European institutions who have their residence in Belgium. This residence condition does not apply in the case of EuroSanté supplementary healthcare insurance. The insurance policies are also open to pensioners, except for the Soins de santé health insurance policies. Personal accident insurance can be subscribed to up to the age of 65 but cover terminates at the age of 75. IMPORTANT : members of Union Syndicale Brussels and colleagues who are ready to become members of it benefit from additional advantages.

For the first four categories of insurance our insurer is FIDEA, an insurance company having its seat in Antwerp. Fidea is an independent insurance company that is active on the Belgian market for most Life and Non-life insurance. Fidea is accredited by the National Bank, its prudential supervisory authority, under code number 0033. Fidea forms part of the Anbang Insurance Group Co Ltd (owner of the Waldorf Astoria, New York). Fidea undertakes its activities from its business centres in Antwerp and Namur. For all other information, consult its website www.fidea.be. For supplementary health care insurance, our insurer is Allianz Worldwide Care (AWC) with its seat in Dublin, Ireland. AWC (Allianz Worldwide Care) is a subsidiary of the Allianz Group. AWC, acting through its Irish branch, is a limited liability company controlled by the authority for prudential supervision in France (No 401 154 679 RCS Paris). AWC has an operating centre in Brussels. The company offers products and services in the fields of healthcare, life, invalidity … It mainly services intergovernmental organisations and companies. Our insurance broker
Our insurance broker is the company Concordia sa, Chaussée Romaine 564B – 1853 Strombeek-Bever, number FSMA 22714, tel. 02/423.11.07, email : email@example.com. Concordia, independent insurance broker accredited by its supervisory authority, the FMSA (Financial Services and Markets Authority) under No 22714 A, is one of the foremost actors on the Belgian market. Created in 1960, Concordia offers its insurance services to international institutions and organisations, as well as to companies and individuals. Concordia undertakes its activities in Belgium from offices in Antwerp and Brussels. Concordia is also present through its branches in Rotterdam and Istanbul. Personal data protection
Union Syndicale Brussels attaches great importance to the respect of your private life. Access to your personal data is subject to strict security controls and it is only communicated to third persons in the situations referred to in point 3 below.
Data of a personal nature of members and former members of Union Syndicale Brussels is obtained and treated only to the extent necessary for the management and functioning of the trade union. It applies to the following information : identity and contact data : membership number, name(s), first name(s), and other information supplied in the membership application form (addresses, telephones, electronic addresses, …) ; membership data : date of joining, bank account, data on payment of subscriptions, data on services used (training, insurance, legal assistance, etc) ; personal data : date of birth, gender, nationality, language; professional data : administrative status, date of recruitment, function group, grade, step, institution, service of attachment, level of activity. We do not collect and do not treat any data of a personal nature concerning persons who are not members or former members of Union Syndicale Brussels.
2.Purposes of data handling
The data collected is used solely for the management and proper functioning of the trade union, in particular for the following purposes :
- complying with the obligations under our statutes (calling general assemblies, participating in election of the organs provided for in the statutes, consulting members or groups of members, payment of subscriptions, …) ;
- Facilitating contact with our members or with certain categories of members.
3.Who has access to the data and to whom is it communicated ?
Members of the bureau of Union Syndicale Brussels and our secretariats have access to all the data that we record. On request, the secretariat can transmit to other members of the Executive Committee the following data :
- membership status
- date of joining
- subscription payments situation
- contact data (office, electronic address, telephone).
The list of members or of certain groups of members is not communicated to members of the Executive Committee, nor to candidates for elections to the Executive Committee. These lists may be communicated to certain members of the Executive Committee for the purposes of undertaking a particular task that has been conferred on them by the Executive Committee. Certain data of a personal nature can be transmitted to third persons (that is to say persons who are not members of the Executive Committee of Union Syndicale Brussels or of one of the secretariats of Union Syndicale Brussels) when a member makes use of one of the services or benefits that are reserved to members of Union Syndicale Brussels, in particular :
- when you have recourse to one of our advocates, we can tell him whether your membership subscriptions are up to date and for how long, as well as your membership number ;
- when you ask to benefit from a reduction conferred by one of our partners, for example for insurance or training, we can tell the partner whether your membership subscriptions are up to date and your membership number. We can repeat the information if the benefit is linked to the fact of remaining a member of Union Syndicale Brussels.
In addition, in the context of supervision of the representativeness of trade unions, an independent body (for example a judicial officer (huissier de justice) instructed by an institution may, with the consent of Union Syndicale Brussels, consult the list of our members to verify the information on the number of members that we are required to transmit to the institutions. His/her mandate expressly prohibits communicating to the institution any personal data on a member or indicating to it whether a person is a member of a trade union.
4.Protection of personal data
The database of Union Syndicale Brussels is managed by the secretariat of Union Syndicale Brussels, under the direct responsibility of the general secretary of Union Syndicale Brussels. Only our secretariats have access to it. For any question or request concerning the information you have supplied to us, please contact the secretariat of Union Syndicale Brussels.
5.Access to your personal data
You do not have direct access to your data but you do have at any moment the right to ask what information has been registered concerning you and to have it rectified. To do that please contact our secretariat in writing.
6.How long is your data kept ?
All personal data that we receive is kept in our computer for the whole duration of your membership and after that for a period of three years. When you cease to be a member of Union Syndicale, you can ask at any moment for your data to be erased. When your data is erased (after three years or on request), we keep only your membership number, your name, your personal number, the date of joining and the date and ground on which your membership ended (data which is necessary for taking a decision on possible subsequent applications to re-join).
Union Syndicale really tries to offer the best possible services and we are sure that the services we are offering are among the very best. However, we advise all colleagues who want to use our services to weigh the pros and cons and to compare the level of benefits and that of premiums. The insurance and financial markets change rapidly and you always should check which the best solution for you. Therefore, Union Syndicale Brussels cannot be held responsible for any negative consequences resulting from your personal decisions.
