We did it! Hundreds marched for locally recruited teachers’ rights!

In solidarity with the Christian trade union ACV Puls/CSC CNE centrale, Union Syndicale together with teachers at the European Schools in Brussels took to the streets yesterday to demand union representation and equal rights for Locally Recruited Teachers (LRTs), who face job instability and unfair contracts.

After a successful two-hour strike in February, yesterday’s half-day strike and march sent a stronger message: we will not back down until our voices are heard!

We started our march on Boulevard Charlemagne near Schuman at 09:30, gathering in solidarity and calling on the Secretary-General to come out and listen to our demands.

Just like seconded teachers (détachés), LRTs work hard to educate students every day, yet they are denied basic rights—no job stability, no fair salary structures, and no clear career progression. Without a union delegation, there is no real way for teachers to fight for better working conditions.

Today, we made our voices heard! Over hundreds of teachers, parents, and supporters joined us, proving that this fight is far from over. We demand that the Secretary-General, the European Commission, and the Board of Governors take action now.

✊ Thank you to everyone who marched with us, chanted with us, and stood for justice. Together, we are stronger, and together, we will continue until we have our rights !
